Making Real Democracy is a revolutionary movement.

Its aim is to shift power away from the places where it is currently located: to put it in the hands of The People.

This revolution will not require people to put their trust in demagogues. And it will not lead to the guillotine or the gulag.

Nor will it require a complete restructuring of government institutions – just the insertion into them of a process that ensures power come from The People and is exercised for The People. 

This process will tap into our collective experience and wisdom. It will hunt down answers to the vital question of our time: How can wealth can be fairly distributed? How can public services and corporations contribute to people living fulfilled lives? How can our nation’s engagement with other nations prevent wars and heal the planet.

This revolution will aim to bring everybody on board by showing that the self-interest of each one of us is a component in the self-interest of all.  

It will be a revolution shaped around systems that give everyone the opportunity to participate in developing a coherent strategy for government, by giving them the opportunity to share their observations on what is going on, and their ideas for how to make things work better.

These systems will provide people with a genuine opportunity to participate. They will not be controlled by, managed by, or otherwise be susceptible to manipulation by those with positional power. We are not setting up yet another consulation through which those with power can try to win assent for what they have already decided to do.

The revolution will begin when people see they can use these systems to improve their own lives by improving the lives of others.

When they move from feeling despair about the way things are to hope that they can make a difference: by finding out and expressing what they really think, by experiencing themselves as part of a community that wants to make the world a sane place, where we recognise that our individual thriving depends upon ensuring that others can thrive.
